1946 – Public housing in Via della Farnesina 52 – Third block.
My friend Elio Roscani and I lived in the same place, at the flats nr. 1 and nr. 5 of the same building. Everybody considered us excellent draftsmen. We had in fact drawn the most famous airplanes’ profiles on almost all the building’s walls. You could see for examples the Spitfire, the Me-109, the Thunderbolt, and so on. At that time, I and Elio conceived a great idea: the foundation of a comic strip journal. So the newspaper “Il Gabbiere” came out, with our texts and sketches. It was the first step on a long professional run in the book industry field. Unfortunately, as it often happens, that run would have brought us on two completely different roads. The picture with me was taken in the Forties, while the picture of Elio was made by me, with my “Comet” camera, some years later, when we bathed in the river Tevere, near the bridge Ponte Milvio, together with other friends of us. Elio was like a brother to me. He is gone forever in 2006.
