1951 – I could call this paragraph “Few steps from America” because it tells an event which has almost changed my life. It was 1951 and Emilia Giacometti’s father, introduced me to Sir “Del Signore “ who took me to the Quo Vadis Production, a Hollywoodian colossal which were producing in Rome. Hundred watercolour costumes had to be realized for the advertising. So, I was in the Hall of the Grand Hotel with a lot of several other illustrators, who were working. The supervisor was, obviously, American. He was a big and tall man., who made me called by the secretary for telling that he had never seen the watercolours like mine. So, he wanted immediately my address for asking to my father the allowed to take me in America. My father, didn’t know yet, that I attended the secondary school of the art and we had not the telephone at home. So, when the work was ultimate the thing finished there. However the American man tried more times to contact me, through his secretary, but how could I have explained my father the really situation? Sure, I think that going in America should been a stroke of fortune for me, considering my abilities for drawing. But, Should I met my wife? Should I had my children? I don’t know this.

One of the several poster of the American colossal “Quo Vadis”? produced in Rome. The two legionaries give the idea of the painted water-colours at the Grand Hotel. Below it is seen a sketch what is not in relation with the film but, shows the technique with which I realized the watercolours.
